Farewell Foundation for the Right to Die
The website Farewell Foundation is currently under construction, This right-to-die society was established by volunteers who were prepared to advance the right of assisted dying before the absolute prohibition for assisted dying was declared unconstitutional.
Welcome to our revival of a right-to-die society first created before the Canadian Supreme Court in 2015 ordered the Government to amend its criminal code to permit an assisted dying provision in the country. That was then created through a legislated medical regime known as MAID (medical assistance in dying) a year later and subsequently amended through court decisions as persons seeking the provision were excluded by overly stringent eligibility criteria determined to be unconstitutional.
While some eligibility restrictions were thus removed and access to the provision widened, many persons seeking a reliable, relatively painless death -whether or not suffering from an irremediable condition- still find themselves excluded because they can not meet MAID requirements.
In addition, persons choosing not to apply for this provision that is arguably ableist, ageist, and sanist, continue to face numerous hurdles for access to it. The older, the more infirm, and the more competent/rational one presents, the more likely it is one will be afforded the provision. Too many are therefore left to manage on their own and must obtain information and support overseas from right-to-die organizations such as Exit International as no other similar supportive resources are in place in Canada that will help them.
While this site is still under construction, we invite any interested persons to consider joining our Board of Directors as a volunteer with this non-profit society. Once you connect with me, I can explore with you how you might be able to contribute to the society with certain needed skills. Please email me at ivsi@protonmail.com
